Here and there

Oh I wanted to begin this post with a hearty ‘good morning!’ but it’s almost noon. I can hear the kids wrapping up Life of Fred Math with their dad, and discussing what’s for lunch. So I guess here’s a ‘good midday’ to you instead. This post is just a little snapshot of what our days look like as the calendar sneaks up on the close of September. Hasn’t this month just blown by? I’d typically be filled with sadness and dreams of a trip to the coast. But with the AC out in the car, I confess I’m pretty thrilled.

Here are B. & K. using up my leftover African mask templates:

Worn desk, work notes, and an unappetizing-looking, yet delicious green smoothie (I’ve lost almost 30 pounds!):

Azzo’s former owner, across the sea in Hungary, wrote to ask after our playful, giant puppy:

The sunflower heads are drooping — the seeds are almost ready to harvest:

I need to find some time to start bottling and canning:

Sunday night E. said he was excited for Monday so he could get back to school with the kids. So, so cute.

B. wanted his photo taken outside by the flowers. I die, he’s so adorable.

I’m slowly, but surely making progress on my portfolio behind the scenes and in between client projects:

Wow– 30 lbs! I wouldn’t have guessed from your pictures you had that to lose, but it’s very inspiring. I am noticing that while my same clothes still fit, I’m feeling blah and doughy this fall. I need some motivation to shape up a bit. Are you exercising as well as keeping up with the plant-based/raw food diet?
    I’d love to hear more!

    Congratulations on your stick-to-it-ness!

I’m not exercising as much as I was now that school & work have started. But I was doing weight training with E., the Couch to 5K program, and my favorite Yoga DVDs. I’d rotate through those during the week.

Now I’m lucky if I get some Yoga in in the mornings.

      Thanks!

Wow. 30 pounds? Daaaaang girl. That’s really impressive. Way to go!

  3. Lora says:

Has B. surpassed his older sister in height?!

Awesome harvest, portfolio, and weight loss! Congrats!

Your baby is so, so cute. My 2.5yo has a similar widow’s peak, and it’s just too cute on them.
Today, well, my house has a lot of peaches everywhere. 8 boxes of peaches to get through, and a friend is watching the kids for me today so I got to break out my Amish canner to try out (holds 15 quarts at a time for water bath canning!). Taking a lunch break before I get all soggy with peach juice again. Ooof. Tiring right now, but very nice come March and June when we’re eating a jar of peaches or applesauce or pears a day.

      B. and J. both have false widow’s peaks. The hair whoorls together right there, but you can lift it up and see a straight hairline. The tan line it creates in the summer is pretty funny!

So true. It’s a ton of work, but then well worth it (she says as we eat the last can of peaches from last year).

ok, I was thinking about your family, not in a weird way..lol, but because you’re such a great example. THIS is how life is supposed to be! The school books out, Olivia next to the BofM. E taking over school and you using your knowledge/skills to contribute when times are tough for the family. The huge garden. You guys are awesome.

However I did giggle a little at the worn desk + coaster under the smoothie. I totally get it though.. little drips on the workspace are annoying.

    • jessica says:

Oh that made me tear up, thanks Deann!

Ha ha ha! It’s habit… well, at least my habit. The poor old desk was E’s out in the shop and it’s absolutely covered with glass rings. I just can’t bring myself to add more!

Today it was packing/mailing (finally got a book project done and back from the binding house!), but mostly, we’ve been puttering with yard and preserving, making peach pies (and lattice-crust tutorials), digging out various bits of the house, reading a lot, working on surprises for family, and prepping for a Big Trip very soon. Enjoyed a fantastic conversation with my boy (13, and I’m looking up) tonight. He’s going to be talking to a local dairyman about hiring on to learn more about it. I guess he was serious a few years ago when he said he wanted to grow up and make cheese!

  7. Michelle says:

30lbs? Where did you have 30lbs to lose? Do you mean that one of the goats wandered off?

Congratulations. I just hit the 20lb mark, and I feel so good! I’m sleeping better and have so much more energy.

Ha ha! My tall frame can hide a LOT of weight. I was stuck at 175 when I started, did Spark People for a bit and got down to 165 but was stuck there too. I’m 140 now. I suppose I could claim 175 as my start point and say I’ve lost 35! But I’m only counting from 165 since that’s where I was at the longest and that’s what I weighed in June when I started the green smoothies / raw eating stuff.

During a dock of truth naked weigh in? (Eep) I can see where I could stand to lose more — the Eat to Live book says I should weigh 130ish for my height, but geez, I haven’t weighed that since my wedding day. Not sure if that isn’t too skinny, yk? Besides, I’m sure if I lose more, I won’t have any boobs left to speak of!

  8. OMSH says:

Congrats on the weight loss Jess…I sooooo know the work that goes into that (mentally and physically).
