Catching up

Here are a few things I haven’t been able to blog about since I started my lovely collapsing episodes last week.

I made a couple of camera straps and a key fob for some lovely customers, but was cleaning off my camera memory card on auto pilot and deleted all but this one:

DLSR camera strap

I have placed all my Kerflop Shop items as out of stock, and I’m sorry Big Cartel makes you click each item before you see everything is sold out, but that’s just how it’s built. Anyway, can’t sew at the moment, so I’m doubly sad I accidentally deleted those pics.

Here’s my growing-way-too-fast 3 year old, still sporting his favorite Ninja hat. He used to wear it with absolutely nothing else on, and run around the house. I can’t even tell you how much it made me laugh. But I still think he’s pretty cute in it, even fully clothed.

Oh this nugget.

The best goat-milker in the land is my son N, who will be 9 soon. My oldest is pretty put out that he isn’t the best at it, but I think it comes down to hand size with these little dwarf goats. N’s hands are perfect, and he can drain that udder in a blink of an eye.

He taught my sister, Mandy when she came up for a visit last week. Manda’s hands are waaay smaller than mine, so she kicked my can. Nutmeg is in the background, tethered temporarily because she will jump up on the milking stand and knock everything over.

My sweet J turned 11 last week. I… I can’t even. That’s way too many candles.

Eleven! How did this happen?

He seriously looks like he could have been my twin brother. Only he’s super cool and I super wasn’t. Just thinking about my years in 5th grade and 6th grade and pretty much every grade makes my stomach hurt. I’m so glad he seems to be avoiding so much of that social nonsense.

Eleven! How did this happen?

After my poor body decided it liked the view better from the floor, my super-fun trip plans with my mom and two sisters was pretty well dashed. I went off to the hospital, and they tried to keep things light and fun on the home front. I am so glad they were there to distract my kids from any fear or worry, I think it worked out so well.

They took them to a pretty garden up at BYU-I in Rexburg and tried to get some photos of all the cousins. Getting everyone to smile at the same time is an impossible feat, but I am really, really fond of this picture. I’m going to have to blow it up and have it framed. That is B’s favorite photo-pose. Lovely, no?

All the cousins

I was at my cute little red-headed niece’s birth, but since my sister, Sabra had to move away, I hadn’t seen her since. But look! She’s got a red mohawk, looks just like her daddy, and is one of the most cheerful, happy babies I’ve ever met. Look, you can totally tell she takes after her papa, right? I can’t see a DROP of her mother in her, but oh how fun it is to watch my baby sister mother her.

Miss H. takes after her papa, obviously!

Sabra drove Mandy home while I was still hooked up to IVs and undergoing various tests, but they left mom here to look after us all. Sabra is back up today to take mom and me down to UT tomorrow for the appointment with the specialist. My mom always wonders if she’s doing enough for us and I can’t even tell you, she’s amazing. But you know the best part? Is just having her here. Her presence alone is a calming force in my life. She hates it when we take her picture, but this one is blurry so hopefully she won’t mind because I love it. Sabe & my mama:

Me seester & me mama

I’m doing okay. Magnesium helps, which I think I’ve already said. I feel like I can’t find the words I want to use, and typing these sentences – which I normally don’t have to think too hard about – is suddenly ridiculously difficult. My MRI showed white spots from migraines but no strokes, so maybe this is just lack of oxygen to the brain, but my goodness I feel really slow when I try to form a sentence or paragraph to speak or type. Weird, right?

My husband and my friend Paula took over my homeschool co-op classes today, and I heard they went well, though the science experiment in Out of this World flopped. Oh wells, you can’t win them all. I miss all the students, and hope I can feel better soon so I can finish out the semester w/ everyone.

I’m exhausted, so I’ll end this meandering post. Hope your mid-week is super fantastic, and if you have suggestions of a TV/Movie series I might like on Amazon Prime, let me know, or of course I’m always open for suggestions on more things to read. Being in bed is so boring.

Being in bed WOULD be super boring. I’m sure I’d read a lot. Have you read State of Wonder? That and Unbroken we’re really great. I liked The Wire but it seems like that might not be your cup of tea? Anyway, still sending good, positive enegrgy your way and lots of prayers!

  2. I love the Arcane series by Jayne Ann Krenz – you may be able to find e-reader copies at your county library. I love that picture of your sister and niece. Your comment about them looking nothing alike reminds me of when my oldest was a baby. She looked nothing like me at all for well over a year… Then slowly, slowly started to show some small resemblance to me. She’s 5 now and looks almost identical to me as a little girl. If she had red hair we could have been twins!

I’ve been praying for you. I hope your visit to the cardiologist goes well.

  3. Tina says:

I’m sorry I have no suggestions…I remember a friend recommending MI-5, that was on BBC and then PBS, I saw some on Netflix when we had it, and it was interesting, but intense–maybe not the best when one is feeling woozy. I like NCIS for that, kind of not too much to think about, but interesting and I like the relationships between the characters. Rest up, I hope the tests get you in to get better Quickly!

    • jessica says:

Thanks Tina, I’ll go pull them up and take a look. My eyes are doing this weird thing where I’ve had to crank the size of the words on my kindle up a few notches, so sometimes it’s nice to just watch the boob tube for a while.

      • Tina says:

I know when I’m sick, the boob tube is much easier, and with you saying you were having trouble even typing/thinking, I figured reading might be tricky. I wasn’t sure what else you’d seen, but approve of other recommendations! :) (YES to Sherlock! But those are intense! : )

  4. monique says:

We love Flash point, looks like it is available to stream. It is a show about a swat team that we have enjoyed.

  5. EmmaNadine says:

North & South starring Richard Armitage. Amazing love story. I’m assuming you’re up to date on Downton Abbey?

    • jessica says:

Oh yes, I want to rant and rave about Downton but know some are waiting for it to hit the states rather than watching streams from the UK.

My friend just shrieked in my ear and told me I will LOVE North and South so I’m definitely looking it up, thank you!

  6. Cosette says:

We’re rooting for you! I’ll recommend the novel Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery. If I was stuck in bed and feeling lousy that’s what I’d reach for. I could lend it!

    • jessica says:

Cosette, that is one of my all time favorite books, I have a very battered paperback, I’ll have to pull it out again, I think it’s been long enough that I won’t have the entire thing memorized. Thanks for the reminder! I’m a huge Montgomery fan!

  7. Kat says:

Your mama is the best lady with the clipboard ever!

Have you watched the BBC series Sherlock? You’d love it big hearts.

    • jessica says:

You have no idea how many times we make that clipboard joke. Whenever she is feeling useless (which is dumb, because she never is useless) I just yell CLIPBOARD LADY! It works, I think.

Gasp, no! Looking it up. I watched three more Robin Hoods and I don’t think I can take any more 21st century makeup w/o throwing a shoe at the TV. WHY? Do they get any better at that as the series continues?

      • Kat says:

The makeup doesn’t get any better. It might get worst. Break up with it and try Sherlock. Oh and London Hospital.

        • jessica says:

Okay, my makeup rage will only intensify. You are made of donuts and kisses. <–what? my brain, Kat, it’s the oxygen deprivation.

  8. trena says:

Your mama has the kindest eyes. I bet all the grandkids just love her and vice versa :). I can’t make any recommendations for books since I am up to my eyes in nursing textbooks currently (however, if insomnia ever becomes a problem, I can recommend some VERRRRY long boring chapters that are sure to knock you out in a heartbeat ;). However, if you can watch things, have you seen the series “Call the Midwife” on PBS? I think it just started this fall and is based on an diaries of a British midwife and her experiences in Gr. Britain from about mid-1960′s on–sometimes it’s sad and depressing (they spend alot of time in the slummy areas of where ever it is that they’re at) but it’s funny at times too…highly recommend! Hope you continue to at least not feel any worse until you can get to the Dr. & find out what’s going on.

    • jessica says:

They do, she likes to think she’s the favorite grandma. :o)

No! But that sounds like something I’d adore. I will go look it up, thank you!

  9. Natalie says:

Ditto what the previous comment said… your mother has kind eyes and a warm face. Love the photo of her.

Please tell me you already know about “Call the Midwife” on PBS – it is so wonderful.

Also, I liked “Bleak House” on Netflix (maybe it is on Amazon, too?)

    • Natalie says:

Oh, how dumb I am… I read the first line of the previous comment, but not the rest. She mentioned Call the Midwife, too. Dummmmy me… hahaha.

      • jessica says:

Ha, that’s okay – I didn’t know about it at all, so I’m glad for the double recommendation.

Thank you! My mom will roll her eyes heavily, but whatever, I think she’s so lovely.

  10. Jess says:

I wish I could come curl up with you and give you some knitting lessons. You would feel so wonderfully productive once you had a bed-rest induced stack of hand knit washcloths or hats :)

  11. Lera says:

Hope your appointment goes well. Keep us posted and good luck!

I love the “From Larkrise to Candleford” series. We rented it from Netflix, but I see that Amazon Prime has it, too!

  12. mamalang says:

Have you joined Goodreads? I know, another social site, but I’ve found it really helpful. They have an app (of course) so when I’m in the store and want to put books on my to read shelf, I can scan the barcode and it loads it right up. It also gives you suggestions after you’ve reviewed so many books, and you can see what your friends are reading. My list of books I want to read is disgustingly long now. :)

Hope you get the answers you need today. Prayers.

  13. Valena says:

Praying your appointment in Utah goes well, and that all the snow doesn’t slow you down a bit.

  14. Jen says:

Oh Jess, praying for thi to be cleared up soon. Fringe has 4 seasons out and I don’t know if you’ve ever watched Madmen, but it’s stellar.
