I don’t really have a picture for this post, but I’m kind of loving this one my sis took of my kids. We had planned on doing a fun photoshoot with all the cousins, and they tried to stick to that plan after I was admitted to the hospital. These, uh, aren’t exactly the outfits I would have chosen (not that my kiddos have super cute photoshoot outfits ready and hanging in their closets), but they look like THEMSELVES (and a little bit like homeless street urchins), but I adore how it’s captured a lot of their personality.
Status Update – TMI Warning
I was warned, so I half expected it. Magnesium can create an undesirable side effect (ye olde runs), but even on 2000 mg per day, I was doing great. It was clearly helping reduce the severity and frequency of my strange episodes, but on Thursday night it caught up with me. Can we talk about how ridiculous it is to desperately need to run to the bathroom, but be rendered unable to even walk quickly?
I stopped taking all Magnesium while my body erm, cleaned itself out and searched for some alternatives. We read good things about Magnesium oil or lotion that’s rubbed into the skin, so my mother went shopping in search of some. I think I would have to bathe in it to get back up to 2000 mgs, but it does appear to be helping a bit.
I’m finally back to normal in the ah, bathroom department, so I tried one 500mg tablet of Mag this morning. Fingers crossed.
Just stuff…
E. has been keeping me posted on the happenings of home. It sounds like they took two snow days to build snowmen and make forts, leaving the bulk of their schoolwork for this week. I wish I’d left the camera home so they could send pictures, I’m sure my great room and hall are strewn with wet gloves, damp snow pants, and boots of all shapes and sizes. Everyone has grown out of most of their winter things so there was a lot of swapping taking place, I think J. wore my boots, N. wore J’s, K. wore N’s, and B. was gloriously bedecked in K’s pink boots, snowpants, purple coat, and sparkly gloves. Why did I take the camera down here, why?!
I miss everyone. Every morning I wake up feeling pretty well, and I lie in bed absolutely positive this is all a bunch of malarky, and that I’ll feel FINE any minute and I’ll be able to go home, chalking everything up to stress or something. It’s always a bit disappointing when I collapse again and find that I’m not just fooling myself.
Movies
Before I came to UT, I started thinking about Anne Boleyn while stuck in bed, and after reading her Wikipedia page, went backwards just a bit to read again about King Henry the 8th, about all his wives, and ended up following the royal line down through the years all the way to the current queen. I find it all so fascinating. The plethora of mistresses, beheadings, the enormous political fight over Catholicism/Rome versus Protestant/Anglican religions, the seemingly unfair ousting of the Jacobites from the succession, and the efforts of medical experts to diagnose royals posthumously. I’ve read most of it before, but it’s been a good distraction.
Continuing my interest in Elizabeth II’s family tree, I’ve been poking around for more period films to watch. I’ve seen the movies below (not during this setback, just over the years), and liked them all pretty well. The Other Boleyn Girl was a monstrosity history-wise. An almost complete re-write, and they made King Henry the 8th look far more attractive than I think he was in real life, though what do I know? Maybe being a king made up for having a square head, a weenie mouth, and eyes that resemble raisins pushed in dough.

I hadn’t ever seen The King’s Speech so my sister found it at a Redbox and we played it through my dad’s Clearplay machine. I really liked it, though of course there were a lot of historical inaccuracies.
These are on my watch list:

It looks like they’ve greatly exaggerated the ‘madness’ of poor King George III (who, if we’re being superficial about kings, looks like he was quite a bit more attractive than his distant forebear, Henry VIII), but I still think it looks like it might be fun to see. I’m also eyeing this series, though sadly none of my ‘watch list’ items are free on Amazon Prime. I’ll have to check my mom’s Netflix while I’m here, though my sisters want to have a Downton Abbey marathon if I can find Season 3 episodes streaming for them…. I can always watch them again, and then I’ll have someone to shout with over the happenings of episode FIVE. Don’t google it if you don’t want to read spoilers!

Oh don’t get me going! Transdermal magnesium is the bomb! We use it everyday. Works to calm little kids, too! Calms my daughters irregular heartbeat. She has MVP, the hole in the heart, and other issues, but surgery is not recommended at this time. Not that we wanted to jump at that, anyway. Stress seems to make her worse and magnesium takes it away!
You will get a hugely higher rate of absorption by applying it to the soles of your feet than by taking orally. And you can’t get too much transdermally, you body will dispose of it in a more agreeable way! Our favorite way to get it in is foot soaks. My best sleep nights are after I’ve soaked. My favorite place to buy it and to soak up knowledge of it is from Joan @ health-and-wisdom dot com. She’s a doll.
Love, love, love the stuff! It can cure everything!
Oh this is just what I needed to hear this morning! I tried just one 500mg tablet yesterday and I am not feeling well at all this morning.
What kind of quantity do you use when you soak your feet? That sounds perfect. I’ve been rubbing this oil on my arms and my sisters rub it on my back for me, but it does leave a kind of salty / fine residue when it has dried / absorbed, is that normal?
Thank you!
The residue feeling is common, if it bothers you you can wash it off. If I’m not soaking my feet I spritz them with the MO (magnesium oil), then rub my feet together so I don’t get it on my hands (then into my eyes) and put socks on. It makes me too relaxed to use during the day, but if you are really deficient, it can have an opposite effect and you would want to use it in the morning!
If it’s too strong and burns, you might want to dilute it with a bit of water, especially for kids.

Using a plastic, glass, or ceramic container* that is large enough to comfortably soak both feet, add 2-4 ounces of Magnesium Oil and enough water cover the tops of your toes, soak 15-20 minutes and discard liquid after soaking. Be sure the temperature of the water is comfortable – no microwaves please! Soak 6 days a week for 3-4 weeks to restore the magnesium level to the cells then 1-2 times a week as maintenance. Spray your body as desired paying attention to the bottoms of your feet and across your heart. You will know if you need to increase the soaking frequency based on how you feel or if your symptoms start to return. (*Plastic dishpans available at most retailers that sell housewares work great!)
Magnesium is the building block of our bones, too. Not calcium. With adding calcium to our diets, we are robbing ourselves of the much needed magnesium that is the fibrous material (netting) that is used to hold the calcium that is needed to strengthen bones, among other things!
Our soil has been depleted of magnesium, thus the need for supplementation. Along with added stress, carbonated beverages, tobacco and alcohol… among so many others…
But please feel free to call Joan at the website listed, she will answer all your questions and then some! She is a wealth for natural healing.
I was so excited with the talk of magnesium, I should have said I am thinking of you and wishing you and your family the best!
Fantastic information, thanks so much! We’ll definitely need to order mag in bulk. I tried the foot soak last night after a particularly bad episode at the kitchen table and it didn’t take long to perk back up. Hooray!
Thanks so much!
Wait! What? I thought Downton Abbey kicks back in for Season 3 in January. There are downloads available? I’m MISSING episodes that are somewhere online???!!! I totally have to Google now!
Pssst… google ‘watch downton abbey online series 3′ and you’ll find streaming UK episodes earlier than you can watch ‘em in the states. I’m up to episode 6, I think!
Thanks for the movie recommendations! I’m curious how Clearplay handled The King’s Speech. I’m much for swearing, but it was such a big (and funny, and well-handled) part of that film. Does the Clearplay mute those words? Skip those scenes? Very curious. Seems like it would detract from the movie.
Off to add some of the others to my Netflix queue…
I think it just mutes them, so you can often see what’s being said. And sometimes it’s a little silly, we saw one “oh my heavens” that was muted. But we could still see the funny scene where they were rolling around and stuff.
After much research for quality and price the above website fit all my requirements, plus customer service that just keeps giving and giving. I have no connection and get nothing from it except the satisfaction that someone else is going to be as happy as I am!
Feel better!
